Course Description:
This 30-hour skill building course provides an opportunity for practicing lymphedema therapists to improve and expand upon their Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) and compression therapy techniques, and update their knowledge of new developments in the treatment of lymphedema. In extensive hands-on sessions, highly experienced lymphedema therapy instructors will provide constructive feedback about each participant’s MLD and bandaging techniques. Participants will be updated on indocyanine green (ICG) guided MLD and the new treatment recommendations for patients with lipedema. Participants are encouraged to bring their own lymphedema treatment questions and case studies for discussion and problem solving with the instructor and their peers. This course provides an opportunity for networking and exchange of experience when treating patients with complex medical histories and comorbidities in an ever more challenging healthcare environment.

Upon completion of the class, the therapist will be able to:

Effectively perform MLD sequences for patients with primary and secondary lymphedema and post-traumatic and post-surgical edema

Effectively perform fibrous tissue techniques for patients with indurated tissue

Effectively perform specialized edema techniques for patients with obesity associated lobular edema presentations

Competently apply short-stretch compression systems for patients with upper and lower extremity lymphedema

Identify the most effective lymphedema and lipedema treatment protocols based on current evidence

Identify the need for referral to other health care professionals in patients with complex medical histories and comorbidities
A total of 30 hours of instruction is provided in this Lymphedema Therapy Skill Building course.

This course is open to
Certified Lymphedema Therapists who are graduates of a lymphedema training program of at least 135 continuous hours. A copy of the Certificate of Completion of your initial MLD/CDT training course/program must be included with the registration form, along with a copy of your current professional license/diploma.
